The "Advances in Morphometries" ASI was once marketed in Nature and a few expert journals. bulletins have been despatched to proper associations and departments during the international. simply because NATO required that most of attendees be from NATO international locations, the seventy one folks attending represented 9 NATO nations, 4 japanese ecu international locations, now famous as equivalent companions for AS Is, and some members from non-NATO nations. contributors have been all energetic students in several disciplines inside biology, in addition to machine technology, information, geology and paleontology. Their event ranged from that of graduate scholars to senior school, in addition to one emeritus pupil. a whole record of the these attending and their addresses, mobile and FAX numbers and, the place on hand, electronic mail addresses is given within the members record. the entire neighborhood preparations have been made through Marco Corti and Anna Loy of the collage of Rome "Ia Sapienza. " They made the preliminary touch with the II Ciocco convention middle after which prepared for machine and Xerox leases, layout of trademarks, association of posters, and booklet of poster abstracts.

Cambridge University Press: Cambridge. MULTIVARIATE ALLOMETRY Christian Peter Klingenberg Department of Biological Sciences University of Alberta Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2E9, Canada ABSTRACT The subject of allometry is variation in morphometric variables or other features of organisms associated with variation in size. Such variation can be produced by several biological phenomena, and three different levels of allometry are therefore distinguished: static allometry reflects individual variation within a population and age class, ontogenetic allometry is due to growth processes, and evolutionary allometry is the result of phylogenetic variation among taxa.
The results of this analysis can then be displayed as plots of the "meta-PC" scores. , Owen and Chmielewski, 1985; Johnson and Wichern, 1988) as a visual indication of statistical accuracy (Klingenberg and Froese, 1991; Klingenberg and Spence, 1993). Comparisons of allometry within several groups often, but not always, show that the coefficients of the PCls differ only minimally. In these cases, it may be feasible to use one of the models of common covariance structure (Fig. 5; Airoldi and Flury, 1988; Flury, 1988).
In all these cases, variation within and between groups has to be separated. Otherwise, levels of allometry may be confounded, or within-group variability may invalidate discrimination between groups. , 1985; Rohlf and Bookstein, 1987; Marcus, 1990; Reyment, 1991 ). Multivariate comparisons of allometric patterns often focus on the directions of the major axes of scatter ellipsoids in several groups. A straightforward measure for differences between two groups is the angle between their first principal components.
